The women are due to report back to work tomorrow after the Christmas holidays. There has also been a delay due to the recent presidential election in Uganda. Elections took place on January 14th and we intentionally gave them a month off to have a well-deserved rest but to also allow them to travel to their home districts so they could be sure to take part in the electoral process. It has been a tumultuous time in the country in a highly contested and controversial election battle, rife with claims of corruption, violence and electoral fraud. And with a global pandemic still happening, it has been a very precarious time. We expected this fully so wanted the women their children to all to be home and be safe until the situation died down a bit before travelling back to Wakiso to resume production.
